Improving Production Line Efficiency with Active Ethernet IO

Improving Production Line Efficiency with Active Ethernet IO

Nov 09, 2010 – Moxa was asked to provide a connectivity solution for one of the world’s leading cosmetics companies. This multinational corporation, with retail presence in 130 countries, 23 global braches, and over 66,000 employees, sought to improve the efficiency of their production process by migrating from manual monitoring to an automatic productivity monitoring system. ABB Real-TPI, a factory information system that offers data collection and analysis to improve plant efficiency, was monitoring the production line.

Due to software limitations, the customer needed an OPC server and a corresponding I/O solution to collect data from additional sensor devices for the Real-TPI system. The goal is to enable the factory information system to more thoroughly collect data from every corner of the production line. This will improve its ability to measure Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and translate into increased production efficiencies. System Requirements * Instant status updates while still consuming minimal bandwidth to relieve strain on limited factory networks * Interoperable with ABB Real-TPI * Small form factor appropriate for deployment where space is scarce *

Remote software management and configuration to simplify operations The Solution was to use Moxa’s ioLogik E2212 with included Active OPC Server software perfectly met the customer’s requirements. Part of Moxa’s Active Ethernet I/O family, the ioLogik E2122 continues of Moxa’s tradition of offering intelligent I/O solutions with active communications architecture. With active “push” architecture, the ioLogik will proactively communicate with the central Real-TPI system instead of waiting for slower and bandwidth-consuming poll-and-response messaging. Moxa’s support for active “push” communications helps the customer conserve the limited available bandwidth in factory networks and maintain a constant up-to-date stream of data from connected devices.

The other unique component of Moxa’s solution is Active OPC Server, which is included with Moxa’s I/O products. Moxa’s Active OPC Server supports push architecture and allows seamless connections with most SCADA software, including ABB Real-TPI. Compared to third-party OPC servers, the Active OPC Server is a convenient solution designed to work with Moxa’s I/O devices that can be freely downloaded from the Moxa website. After evaluating these features, the customer installed ioLogik E2212 units on their production line to interface with optical sensors that maintain a count of how many units are produced. The ioLogik is configured to proactively transmit the counter value to the Active OPC Server every time the value hits a certain threshold, which ensures that an up-to-date count is available to the ABB Real-TPI system.

Why Moxa

* Seamless integration between the ioLogik I/O device and ABB Real-TPI with Moxa’s Active OPC server

* Effortless, One-Click method to generate I/O tags on the Active OPC Server simplifies initial system setup

* Reduce network traffic with Active communications architecture

* Active OPC Server included free, to save deployment costs
Specialised distributor for high-end CCTV cameras, thermal imaging, laser ranging and situation awareness systems. Advanced access control systems including facial recognition and fingerprint identification.

Senior Social Club Participants Benefit from Peer Socialization

The Atrium’s Senior Social Club Adult Day Program Participants Benefit from Peer Socialization

Nov 09, 2010 – In just the past eight years, the number of adult day services participants and caregivers has grown by 63 percent, demonstrating that these daily respite programs have emerged as a leading care provider in the United States. Programs like The Atrium’s Senior Social Club at The Allendale Community for Mature Living, which was established in 2002, are specially designed to provide older adults with a closely supervised program of daily activities and peer socialization.

According to a 2010 study conducted by the MetLife Mature Market Institute, in conjunction with the National Adult Day Services Association, the most common living arrangement for elderly day services participants is with an adult child. In addition to supporting individual autonomy, adult day services help primary caregivers fulfill their work- and family-related responsibilities.

“Three years ago, I did not want to go on vacation with my daughter and her family because I felt they needed time to themselves,” said Flora Baltera of Saddle River. “I knew they would worry about me if I stayed home by myself so I did some research on my own about the Short-Term Stay Program and discovered the Senior Social Club.”

Following a two-week stay as a guest of The Atrium, an upscale apartment-rental senior living residence offering supportive services, Baltera returned to her family’s home and enrolled in the Senior Social Club once a week. Eager to participate in the various cognitive, wellness, exercise, social and cultural activities, she quickly increased to two days a week. Recently, Baltera expanded her enrollment to three days.

“I especially like the word games and Zumba for Seniors class,” she said. “My daughter knows I get a lot of joy from being in the club and I have made many new friends.”

One of those new friends is Gerri Thompson, a former club member who moved to The Atrium full-time almost a year-and-a-half ago. Like Baltera, Thompson inquired about The Senior Social Club, started coming once a week and then increased to twice weekly. “Over time, I began to feel as if The Atrium was my home away from home and now that I have moved into my own apartment, I really feel like I am part of a bigger community,” she said.

Since its inception eight years ago, the Senior Social Club has been offering ambulatory seniors stimulating peer interaction in a comfortable, secure environment. Participants enjoy a full breakfast and nutritious lunch served in The Atrium’s restaurant-style dining room. The modest daily fee includes participation in a full roster of planned activities and outings, including cultural and musical performances on-site and at local venues; trivia games, current events discussions and political debates to challenge the mind; and exercise sessions that include yoga and tai-chi to strengthen the body. The club operates weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and participants are welcome to enroll in any number of days. Transportation to and from adjoining towns can be arranged.

“Families who wish to have their elderly loved one live with them value the meaningful, therapeutic interactions their aging parent or relative have with people their own age at The Senior Social Club,” said Mary Stampleman, ADC, Director of Therapeutic Recreation & Community Relations at The Atrium. “A large majority of our day program participants also take advantage of the Short-Term Stay Program and often transition to becoming full-time residents of The Atrium.”

Offering stays of a week or two, to lengthier stays of a month or longer, Short-Term Stay guests benefit from The Allendale Community for Mature Living’s full complement of recreational activities, fine dining and flexible healthcare and wellness options. Services include assistance with daily tasks such as dressing and bathing, medication management and wellness assessments. Therapeutic treatments, such as occupational, physical and speech therapy, can also be administered by professionals associated with The Allendale Community’s onsite Rehabilitation Center.

HERRICK now supported by MAC Cosmetics

HERRICK now supported by MAC Cosmetics

Nov 09, 2010 – “I am proud to wear M.A.C Cosmetics,” says Donna. “I am so excited to be taking M.A.C on the road with me when touring! I love their products and can’t wait to share M.A.C information to all our fans”.

NEW DANCE, Herrick’s new album is slated for release in 2011. Opening the door to the soul of Herrick giving you a peek of what’s going on inside.

“We are excited about the new songs”, chimes Donna. “We started a year or more ago, then we met Jeff Baker. We started talking to Jeff and hit it off musically. We clicked in the studio, so we all decided to scratch what we had and start again!

“These songs are truly HERRICK!”, says Donna. “We were so tired of hearing, “You guys are incredible Live”. “You  are so much better live than on the CD!” “Don’t get me wrong, it is a great compliment to our live performance. But this time around you will hear Herrick as Songwriters,Vocalists, and Musicians.

Deciding what songs will make the Album is not an easy process.”The final cut has not been decided,” adds Kerry. ” We have brand new songs that were just written a few months ago, as well as some we have been performing live for some time.” “We are waiting until we are all finished with all the tracking and then we will decide.”  ”Donna’s voice is astonishing, so many artists these days let their voices be discombobulated by computers. Donna doesn’t do that. She doesn’t need to. She can walk into a room and kick your ass.”

The songs written by Donna and Kerry run the gamut of emotions, alternating at times between seething rage and a bruised vulnerability. With Donna’s powerful vocals, pummeling riffs, and swaggering attitude, sounds a bit like what might have happened had Led Zeppelin been fronted by “a chick.”

The band has diverse influences like Ann Wilson (Heart), Ryan Adams, Audioslave, Dwight Yoakum, Fleetwood Mac, Merle Haggard, The Eagles, Emmylou Harris, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Maroon 5, Waylon Jennings, Evanescence and more… it’s no wonder their music combines many elements from different musical styles into a new and unique blend.

Industry insiders label the band “A Breath of Fresh Air”. Different is very intriguing, and Herrick has been winning fans and music insiders over with every show they play.
